About

Martin Lechleitner appeared as Artist in Residence at the Theater Chemnitz, where he performed roles such as Dancaïre in Georges Bizet’s Carmen, the innkeeper Pasek in Leoš Janáček’s The Cunning Little Vixen, and Pedrillo in Mozart’s Die Entführung aus dem Serail. He also drew critical acclaim for his performance in the title role of Johann Christian Bach’s rediscovered opera La clemenza di Scipione at Staatstheater Meiningen/Eisenach. Further guest appearances followed, including Belmonte in a children’s production at the Theater an der Wien and Michelis in Bohuslav Martinů’s The Greek Passion at Theater Osnabrück. Recently, he portrayed the title role in the opera Peter Pan – The Dark Side at the Tiroler Landestheater. Currently, he can be seen at Theater Regensburg as the scheming aristocrat Patrick Honoré Begearss in John Corigliano’s masterpiece The Ghosts of Versailles.

During his studies at the Tyrolean State Conservatory in Innsbruck with Prof. Gabriele Erhard and later at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna, where he completed his Master’s degree in Opera with distinction under Prof. Karlheinz Hanser, Martin Lechleitner already gained attention in roles such as Contino Belfiore (La finta giardiniera), Hans (Weiße Rose), Beppe (Pagliacci), and Don Basilio (Le nozze di Figaro).

In 2017, he made his debut at Tiroler Landestheater as Nathanael in Les contes d’Hoffmann. In the operetta repertoire, he appeared as Graf Gustl von Pottenstein in the highly successful 2019 production of Das Land des Lächelns (The Land of Smiles) at Seefestspiele Mörbisch. This was followed by his debut as Pedrillo in Die Entführung aus dem Serail at the Danish National Opera (Den Jyske Opera) in Aarhus.

With a strong affinity for the music of the 20th and 21st centuries, the tenor has performed as Wilfred Owen in Norbert Zehm’s World War I opera Strange Meeting and appeared once again at the Danish National Opera in the world premiere of Karsten Fundal’s Inkognito Royal. In the Austrian premiere of Dai Fujikura’s science fiction opera Solaris, he portrayed the role of Snaut at Neue Oper Wien. In the summer of 2023, he made his debut at the Bregenzer Festspiele in another world premiere, Fabián Panisello’s Brecht opera Die Judith von Shimoda.

Another fascinating facet of Martin Lechleitner’s artistry is his passion for the music of the 1920s and 1930s. As a regular soloist with Divertimento Viennese, he performs at Vienna’s most prestigious balls, including the Kaffeesieder Ball, the Vienna Ball of Sciences, the Vienna Philharmonic Ball, and the Vienna Opera Ball.

Deeply devoted to the art of Lied and historically informed performance practice, he regularly engages in projects featuring historical keyboard instruments in collaboration with the Tyrolean State Museums and the Kunsthistorisches Museum Vienna. His concert appearances have taken him to international stages in cities such as Athens (Theocharakis Foundation), Vaduz, and Bayreuth (Haus Wahnfried). He is currently coached vocally by KS Michael Schade.

In his hometown of Landeck, Martin Lechleitner serves as the artistic director of the concert series HORIZONTE, a role in which he succeeded renowned flutist Karl-Heinz Schütz.
